South American cuisine takes centre stage at the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur
The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur and the Embassy of Argentina are joining hands to promote the best of Argentine cuisine through a three-course set menu specially curated by Guest Chef Patron Diego Jacquet. This special gastronomic event, featuring Argentina’s world renowned beef and wine, is in conjunction with the celebration of the country’s National Day and its 50 years of diplomatic relations with Malaysia.
At a recent media preview of the four-day promotion, graced with the presence of the Argentine Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Manuel Balaguer Salas, guests feasted on the appetiser Cangrejo y Humita Norteña (crab on toast, humita, pickled radishes and coriander), the main course Ojo de Bife (grilled Argentine rib eye, with chips Provenzal and chimichurri) and dessert of Torta de 3 Leches (milk cake, coffee, citrus crumble and passion fruit sorbet). The popular Argentine staple Empanadas Salteñas (a pastry or turnover filled with hand cut beef, onions, potatoes and olives) was also offered as a starter.
Undoubtedly, the star of the lunch was the rib eye steak, superbly grilled medium to medium-rare and perfectly pink and juicy inside. Chimichurri, a traditional Argentine sauce of herbs, garlic and vinegar, was served on the side and complemented the flavoursome and tender hunk of meat. The side dish, chips Provenzal comprised of potato chips – although they were more like wedges – with garlic and parsley that were wonderfully crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
For choices, the menu will also offer Ravioles de Calabaza y Garrapiñada (pumpkin ravioli, sage, goat’s cheese, garrapiñada) for the main course, and Flan y Dulche de Leche (crème caramel, dulce de leche, mascarpone cream) for dessert.
Chef Jacquet, who began his career in Buenos Aires, is currently chef patron at two restaurants; London’s award-winning ZOILO, and boCHINche in Singapore. He has worked alongside Argentine legend Francis Mallman, and Ferran Adrià of three Michelin-starred restaurant El Bulli. Jacquet is also an ambassador and founder of the Comilona Food and Wine Festival, a nomadic Argentine food and wine festival that aims to build a community of cooks, producers and writers keen to discover, learn and improve their Argentine cooking.
The three-course event is available at Ritz-Carlton’s The Library on 23-26 May for dinner, from 7 pm to 11 pm. The food-only menu is priced at RM250 nett or RM375 nett with wine pairing. For reservations and enquiries, call +60 3 2142 8000 or email dining@ritzcarlton.com.my.
