Have you come across any of these unusual sports and championships?
Continuing from where we left of (The World's Weirdest Sports Part 1), we have come up with yet another list of the world's most bizarre and unusual sports, which are also celebrated widely by people all over. Part 2 of the article includes non-humans as well:
Yabbie Races
Yabbie or yabby is a name given in Australia to a certain kind of crustacean. Naming convention aside, yabbies are staples in the country’s culinary scene as well as stars of the Yabbie Races. In the competition, yabbies are normally auctioned off to participants before the race as this gives people a chance to assess their speed and ‘natural talents’. But it’s difficult to assume how fast they can go before the gun is fired.
Requirements: Yabbie whispering abilities.

Kaiju Big Battel
A first impression of its name suggests that this performance-based wrestling is Japan-made. But in actual fact, the Kaiju Big Battel originates from Boston, Massachusetts. A parody of both professional wrestling and the kaiju films of Japan, it’s a rather entertaining sport with plenty of in-jokes, especially relating to wrestling, superheroes, comic books and Japanese pop-culture.
Requirements: Fire-breathing kaiju costume.
Rabbit Show Jumping
An increasingly popular sport in Scandinavia and other parts of the world and the competition is very much similar to show jumping for horses. The goal is to jump cleanly over a set course within an allotted time, with every jump knocked down receiving one fault. The winning rabbit is determined with the fewest number of faults.
Requirements: A really talented bunny.
Wife-carrying World Championships
In Finland, carrying your wives around an obstacle course isn’t out of norm. The wife carrying championship is as legit as any sport that involves a duo of a male racer and a female teammate. The objective is for the male to carry the female and race through a specially designed obstacle track in the fastest time.
Requirements: A lightweight and sporty wife.
Yukigassen
Yukigassen (Snow Battle) is a snowball fighting competition that originates from Japan but has since been adopted all over the world in snowing countries such as Finland, Norway, Australia, Sweden and Canada. It is a game between two teams of seven players each where they will eliminate the opposing team’s players with successful hits by the snowballs thrown.
Requirements: Ice Magic.

Finger Jousting
Finger jousting may appear hilarious and even negligible to the unknown but participants know it better that this sport requires a lot of agility, strength and dexterity to emerge victorious. The game of poking people have also existed for since pre-historic times and while it's fun to finger-jab people, it can be pretty hazardous as well.
Requirements: The Finger.
Extreme Ironing
A culmination of extreme sport and performance art. Extreme Ironing is a well celebrated sport where people take ironing boards to remote locations and iron items of clothing. It is a cultural phenomenon that is said to “combine the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt”.
Requirements: Domestic talents.

Dog Surfing
Dog surfing involves canines that are trained to surf on surfboards either with a human or alone. The judging criteria include the dog’s overall certainty on the board, wave size and ride length. Surfing dogs aren’t a modern occurrence either as they have been documented since the 1920s in the United States.
Requirements: Man’s best friends.

Boomerang Competition
Not a weird event and not very popular around the world either as it is widely believed that boomerangs don’t actually recoil back to their throwers. But that’s where most of us get it wrong as boomerangs do work the way they’re intended. Competitors get to show off their boomerang throwing abilities and skills, while being tested for accuracy, endurance, fast catch and trick catch.
Requirements: Sentient boomerangs might make competing easier.
