From beaches to boxing nights, Krabi packs a wealth of experiences into this warm, welcoming southern Thai province
Krabi, a coastal province in southern Thailand, is a place where you can feel at one with nature – think sparkling beaches, turquoise waters and lush mangrove forests.
Its history is embedded in caves and folklore. Legend has it that when Krabi was founded, two swords were discovered and presented to the governor. The swords were later placed in a cave, crossed over one another – an image that became the town’s emblem and inspired the name “Krabi”, which means “sword” in Thai.
Discover the magical allure of Krabi over a weekend filled with gorgeous scenery, boxing fights, hot springs and street food.

Friday
Morning. Begin your Krabi adventure by visiting Din Daeng Doi viewpoint (212 Moo 6, Nong Thale sub-district, Mueang Krabi District). Though it’s an early start, this hilltop observatory, about 30 minutes by car from Ao Nang beach, offers a sunrise view unlike any other in the region.
Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing breakfast at Treehouse Café (Ao Nang; @thetreehousekrabi), a serene jungle spot with river views, treetop terraces and canopy walkways that put you directly in nature’s healing embrace.
Afternoon. Don’t miss kayaking through the mangrove forests of Ao Thalane Bay (Khao Thong sub-district, Mueang Krabi District). As you paddle deeper into the mangroves, spot monkeys and other wildlife while the scenery shifts between canyons, lagoons and jungle.

Evening. Head to Khaothong Hill (Khao Thong sub-district, Mueang Krabi District; @khaothonghill) during sunset for delicious drinks with breathtaking views of the bay. For dinner, sample the quesadilla, crab meat, basil chicken, spicy rice and fries alongside a scrumptious caramel espresso cake.
For a thrilling ringside experience, head to Krabi International Boxing Stadium (767 Ao Nang, Mueang Krabi District; @krabiboxingstadium), about a 35-minute drive away, to watch professional Muay Thai fighters battle it out. Book in advance for a fight that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Saturday
Morning. Start your day with eggs and coffee at the Coffee Club (273 Moo 2, Ao Nang; @thecoffeeclubthailand) to fuel up for a day of island-hopping.
Book a longtail boat at Ao Nang Walking Street from a local tour provider. If gorgeous scenery is what you’re after, choose the Phi Phi longtail boat ride, which takes you around the spectacular Phi Phi Archipelago.
The tour includes the islands of Koh Mor and Koh Tup. If the tide is low, you might be able to experience the “divided sea” phenomenon called Talay Waek, and walk on the white sandbar that connects the isles.
At Ko Phi Phi Leh, you can get off the boat and swim or snorkel in Pileh Lagoon’s crystal-clear waters, surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs.
Afternoon. Most full-day tours include a lunch stop at Ko Phi Phi Don and visits to several stunning spots in the archipelago. You’ll see Viking Cave, a dramatic limestone cave known for ancient bird’s nest harvesting; Monkey Bay, a sandy cove where you can spot macaques; Bamboo Island, a tiny paradise with white sand and coral reefs; and Chicken Island, famous for its chicken-shaped rock and snorkelling opportunities.
Evening. Back on the mainland, walk 10 minutes from Ao Nang beach to Kodam Kitchen (3 Khlong Hang Rd; kodamkitchen.com) for crowd-favourite Pad Thai and roasted duck curry.
If you’re up for it, take a 15-minute boat ride from Rayavadee Nong Nuch Pier in Krabi Town to The Grotto (Rayavadee Resort) and dine beneath limestone cliffs. For hotel guests only.
Sunday
Morning. In Krabi Town, grab breakfast at Café 8.98 (143/7-8 Ao Nang; @cafe8.98), known for fresh, tasty dishes that keep locals coming back.
Southeast of Krabi Town, head 1.5 hours out to Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve to visit the Emerald Pool for a refreshing dip, then take a short, uphill walk to the Blue Lagoon. Swimming isn’t permitted here for safety reasons, but its deep blue hues – caused by high mineral deposits – are worth the stop. Complete the wellness experience at the nearby Krabi Hot Stream, a natural hot spring waterfall that offers a natural jacuzzi-like thermal bath in the middle of the jungle.
Book a guided tour from Ao Nang Walking Street, or rent a car or scooter if you prefer to visit in the early morning and avoid the crowds.
Afternoon. One of Krabi’s signature sights is the Tiger Cave Temple, or Wat Tham Suea. This forest temple sits on a hill northeast of Krabi Town. It began as a quiet meditation retreat and is known for tiger paw markings found inside the cave. Climb the 1,260 steps to a mountaintop shrine with a large golden Buddha and enjoy sweeping views of Krabi’s forests, limestone peaks and coastline.
Evening. For your final night here, the Krabi Weekend Market (Pak Nam, Mueang Krabi District) in Krabi Town is packed with street food favourites like grilled fish skewers, prawn fritters, coconut balls, fried bananas and Thai iced milk tea. Wander through stalls, catch live performances and squeeze in any last-minute shopping – the perfect way to wrap up your trip.
