Going Places isn’t just for travellers in the air – sit back, relax and flip through our e-magazine for travel inspiration

When I travel somewhere new, there’s always a thrill in ticking off bucket-list items – the landmarks, the must-try dishes, the photo-worthy spots. But I’ve come to realise that some of the most memorable moments happen when I stop planning and start wandering.
Letting your feet lead the way, allowing yourself to simply be present can uncover unexpected gems that give your journey deeper meaning and purpose.
This month, we lean into the beauty of slow travel, beginning with our cover story in Kyoto. Here, travel becomes a contemplative experience – whether it’s visiting the oldest tea caddy maker in Japan, where tea is a silent drink that invites quiet contemplation, or joining a traditional crafts workshop to witness firsthand the patience and precision of Japanese artisans.
Meanwhile, here in Malaysia, we find ourselves in Penang just in time for the George Town Festival. We explore a vibrant mix of street art, watch the iconic Macalister Mansion transform into a sun-drenched backdrop for Dioriviera’s capsule collection, escape to Penang Hill’s cooler ambience and of course, indulge in the island’s unbeatable food offerings.
Also in this issue, we ask: have you heard of sober bars? These stylish, alcohol-free spaces are gaining popularity across major cities, offering creative, craft-level drinks without the buzz. We spotlight some musttry spots in Manila for those curious about mindful socialising.
Wherever you find yourself this August, may your travels be unhurried, your senses open and your heart full. Here’s to finding magic in the quiet details.
Go forth and wander!
