A highly-appealing and fun tourist destination, Shenzhen has grown in prominence as a highly-appealing tourist destination
Of all the cities in China, none have boasted immense growth like Shenzhen. The city, which was one of China’s first and most successful Special Economic Zones, has developed not only in size and economy but has also, as of late, put itself on the worldwide tourist map. In the past, Shenzhen may have been a place for day-trippers from Hong Kong but today it’s a destination that’s undoubtedly worth a visit. Here’s the proof:
Splendid China
For over twenty years the cultural village has been luring visitors with its amazing array of architecture and showcases that highlight China’s main ethnic groups. The sprawling park also boasts a Miniature section where scale models of world wonders are on display. If you want to find out more about the country, its people and history, a day-long visit to Splendid China will more than sort you out.
Safari Park
It may be hard to fathom, but Shenzhen boasts its own safari park. Located near Xili Lake, the park is spread across 120 hectares and is home to 300 or so animal species including Bengal tigers, giraffes, elephants and pandas. Getting the opportunity to view these animals aside, some endangered, Shenzhen’s Safari Park also has one of the largest swan lakes in the region with a huge number of black and white swans populating the area.
Xianhu Botanical Gardens
If you had your fill of the hustle and bustle of the city, head out to the Botanical Gardens in the eastern suburbs. Also known as the Fairy Lake Botanical Gardens, the nature park features abundant flora and fauna and numerous gardens as well as temples and lakes. A vibrant and thriving green lung, the gardens provide nature lovers with scenic and peaceful views, and the opportunity to soak it all in at a snail’s pace if they so choose.
Xiaomeisha
Located some 30 kilometres away from town, the beachfront district of Xiaomeisha offers a welcome reprieve from the busy city life of Shenzhen. A vast beach, a Seaworld-styled theme park and shopping centre are just some of the highlights in this area. Visitors can also opt to engage in a wide array of activities such as water sports, hiking and camping but it’s also a pretty decent place just to kick back and relax in a less chaotic atmosphere.
