Looking for somewhere locally to spend the day away from the woes of reality?
Whether as an adult or child, visiting a theme park is always exciting and fun as a group or as a family. Across Malaysia, there are many various types of theme parks scattered about the peninsular, from water parks to amusement parks that offer rides, as well as all-in-one parks that cater for all age groups and entertainment levels. Here are some theme parks to consider.
Legoland
A brand name known through many generations, Legoland is a theme park, water park and Lego-themed hotel located in Johor Bahru. Here, you can find more than 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions, all presented with interactivity. The centrepiece of the park is Miniland, an area where many Asian landmarks are replicated using more than 30 million Lego bricks. The remaining six themed areas are The Beginning, Lego-Technic, Lego Kingdom, Imagination, Lego City and Land of Adventure, which will be a plus point for existing collectors of Lego and budding enthusiasts wanting deeper insights in life-size renditions.
Sunway Lagoon
Located in the heart of Petaling Jaya, Sunway Lagoon offers an all-round experience, incorporating a water park, amusement park, wildlife park, extreme park and ‘scream’ park, all in one location. With more than 80 attractions packed into 88 acres of land, Sunway Lagoon is a hit with visitors of all ages.
A’Famosa
In the quaint little town of Malacca, this theme park consists of a Safari Wonderland, water park, Old West theme park and various sport and recreation offerings. With activities available at A’Famosa such as horse rides, paddle boats, target shooting, paintball war game, archery and rock climbing, your visit to this theme park can be a little more unique compared to the regular water and amusement parks available in Malaysia.
Sunway Lost World of Tambun
Despite the word ‘Sunway’ in its moniker, this theme park is actually located in Ipoh, the northern part of the Peninsular. Known as a popular family attraction, the Lost World of Tambun offers many attractions, mostly enjoyed by children such as a water park, amusement park and wildlife petting zoo. Adults will also find this theme park enjoyable at the Lost World Hot Springs and Spa, ideal for relaxation after a long day within its vicinity. Featuring a 100% natural mineral hot springs, the Hot Springs and Spa also offer spots where the entire family can soak up without having anyone feeling left out.
Genting Highlands
One of the most integrated resorts in Malaysia, Genting Highlands features many attractions for all ages. Whether you are an adult trying to test your luck at the casino, or a family wanting to enjoy the cool highland air while experiencing the indoor theme park, shows and attractions, Genting Highlands is never out of activities. There was previously an outdoor amusement park in Genting Highlands, but it is undergoing a major development concurrently to make way for Twentieth Century Fox World. However, there are still a lot left to see and do, and you can always kick back and have a cup of coffee as you enjoy the cool, crisp weather at one of the cafes peppered around the highlands.
