Experience a tropical island getaway by the South China Sea
Surrounded by lush tropical jungle, azure blue waves and sandy white beaches, the Taaras Beach & Spa Resort by Berjaya Group is perfect for honeymooners and those looking for a bespoke beach holiday.
Named from the word ‘taara’, which is Sanskrit for ‘Goddess of the Sea’, the luxurious five-star resort is tucked between luscious tropical green hills facing the sea, on the island of Redang off the coast of Terengganu, Malaysia.
The pampering experience begins as soon as guests check into its 183 rooms and suites, all equipped with top notch modern comforts – from spacious beds and soft linen to large bathtubs and coffee making facilities. Adding a nice, homely touch are the welcome chocolates, fresh fruits and biscuits replenished daily by staff. There are eight different views of stay, offering alluring landscapes of the garden, cliffs and ocean.
The ocean villas are just steps away from a private beach, fronted by a the open air Bayu Bar, where guests can sip on cocktails before taking a dip in the clear blue waters. In the evening, enjoy romantic barefoot walks on the soft, sandy stretch while watching the sunset.
Guests will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. The Beach Brasserie serves Western, Japanese and Indian cuisine as well as beachside seafood and western grill offerings. Have a meal on the deck or near the show kitchen in a modern and open space, with views of white sand and the ocean beyond. The Asean All Day Dining dishes out Malaysian and international specialties, while the Asean Terrace Lounge serves light bites, cocktails and drinks with soothing light background music.
No beach getaway is complete without a massage and spa treatments. The Taaras Signature Massage, where a heated poultice consisting of aromatic herbs and spices are applied on pressure points, helps to sooth sore muscles and revitalise the body.
Over at the small but well-equipped gym, floor to ceiling glass windows offer a sweeping view of the hills and oceans. Sports lovers can also take part in beach volleyball, tennis or do some laps in the pool.
For adventurous souls who wish to venture beyond the resort, The Taaras organises kayaking, snorkelling, island hopping and diving activities. On land, go jungle trekking in the surrounding hills, through a 2km moderately well-trod and marked path between Pasir Panjang and Teluk Dalam beach. Sights include a small stream and pools with catfish, as well as the occasional encounter with the shy mouse deer and other flora and fauna.
Visitors will have more reasons to discover the Taaras, as Berjaya Group, in collaboration with Prima Air, will provide chartered flights to the island beginning April 2017.
Prima Air’s 10-seater Grand Caravan EX light aircraft will fly three times weekly from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, directly to the Redang island airstrip.
The service is available with various travel packages, starting from a 3D2N package at RM2,000, inclusive of accommodation, return flight and meals.
