Add a dash of adrenaline to your romance this February 14th with this extreme activity guide
Roses, candlelit dinners, romantic gifts. That’s what forms the basis of Valentine’s Day for most couples each year. But what if you want to add some excitement to your romance, perhaps with a dash of adventure? Something could truly make your heart and your significant other’s race with exhilaration on the most romantic day of the year? Here are some choice extreme escapades for you and your loved one that you could do for Valentine’s right here in Kuala Lumpur.
Take romance to new heights
There’s nothing quite like taking in a sunrise while floating in a hot air balloon, especially as it soars above the magnificent skyline of Putrajaya. Hot air balloon operators, MyBalloon Adventure based in the Federal Administrative Capital of Malaysia, specialises in balloon flights over the city offering guests a bird’s eye view of its magnificent surroundings. Rides begin in the early hours of the morning, and takes place for approximately an hour where you can not only soak in the adventure but also witness one of the best sunrises this side of the equator. From RM850 per person.
Take the plunge
Want a novel way to literally dive into a relationship? Aquaria KLCC offers an exclusive Cage Rage programme that allows you to experience the award-winning aquarium from within the 2.5 million litre Oceanarium tank. Once kitted with a dive suit, a mask and regulator, you’re led into the Cage Rage, which is nestled three metres below the Living Oceans exhibit. The thirty minute encounter puts you face to face with Aquaria’s prominent residents such as Sand Tiger Sharks, Fantail Rays, Moray Eels, Turtles and other exotic marine life from across the globe. From RM211 per person. If this sounds like an unbeatable setting to pop the question, you can do that too with a Cage Rage Proposal (RM953) that comes with underwater props, memoir photos and a fresh flower bouquet as well.
Make a splash
Imagine slapping on a pair of propulsion boots and hovering above water like Iron Man. That’s exactly what taking a spin with a Flyboard feels like. Created in 2012 by Frenchman, Franky Zapata, the space-age device is now available here thanks to local outfit Flyboard Malaysia. Based at Putrajaya Lake, the Flyboard is essentially a pair of boots with jet nozzles underneath them. Attached to a watercraft like a jet ski, the device works by redirecting jets of water through the soles, which ultimately provides enough thrust to allow its user to soar and hover above water. Solo flights for beginners begin from RM350 and lasts for 20 minutes.
Get your heart racing
It’s about time to inject a little competitive spirit into your romance and what better way to do it than a few quick laps in a zippy go-kart? The Sepang International Kart Circuit (SIKC), located adjacent to the Sepang Track offers the same layout as the Hermann Tilke designed track, spread across 1.247km with eleven challenging corners. The tarmac used is also identical to the main track, so you’re guaranteed one of the best racing experiences. In terms of machinery, there are 100cc, 125cc and 200cc karts to choose from. And guys, regardless of what you choose, just let the girl win ok? From RM42.40 per person.
Make a leap of faith
Put your love to the test by taking the ultimate leap of faith with a tandem bungee jump. Sunway Lagoon’s Extreme Park operates Malaysia’s first permanent bungee jump within the confines of the theme park. At 22m high (or the height of an eight-story building), the bungee jump here is more than enough to rattle a few nerves. Or you can also opt to hop into the G-Force X, Asia’s highest slingshot ride that will literally propel you and your loved one from 0 to 120kmh in a blink of two seconds. Talk about leaving your heart behind in a literal sense.
