Young Malaysian designer Fern Chua is known for her wonderful batik fashion creations, but for next month’s Raya festivities, she has created a collection inspired by the delicate petals and vibrant colours of orchids.
“The Orchid Series is an ode to my late father, who taught me how to appreciate and enjoy nature’s extraordinary design. I was inspired by the delicate petals and vibrant colours of orchids and this collection was crafted with its elegance in mind. For this series, a selection of blooms were chosen — each for their structure, pigment and symbolism,” Fern shares.
In Fern’s Orchid Series, the signature jungle orchid designs feature fresh and soft feminine ruffles, structured pleats, classic cuts and exaggerated sleeves. She also plays and explores with soft whimsical tones and contrasting vibrant colours with their traditional designs, modern silhouettes and signature classic kaftans.
“With Raya celebrations just around the corner, we wanted to create a collection that is meaningful, while still being in one’s element. We have put much thought and consideration with how Raya will be celebrated differently by our customers this year. Our latest series is designed to be versatile and can be worn for any types of occasion, whether it is for a family and friends gathering or relaxing at home.”
