The Malaysian Hip Hop artist on his favourite places, discovering Hong Kong and taking on The Ultimate BROcation
Tell us about your new show The Ultimate BROcation.
I had a wonderful time being a part of The Ultimate BROcation! The whole experience was full of firsts for me. First time in Hong Kong, first time meeting the other bros, and first time on an actual BROcation!
So how did it feel visiting Hong Kong?
I found that Hong Kong is awesome! The city is like the whole of Asia crammed into one place. You can find anything your heart desires, from rare sneakers to seaside cafés, from street snacks to Michelin star restaurants!
Now you’re back home in KL. So where do you go for a little R&R in the city?
I usually stay at home to relax. I'll fix myself a nice meal and go for a swim at the pool. The studio is quite a zen place for me too so you would probably catch me chilling out there too.
In your own words what makes Malaysia special?
What makes Malaysia special is our heritage, culture and our pace of life. Malaysia has inherited many influences from all passing cultures throughout history, and it shows in all facets of life: cuisine, architecture, language and local customs. Malaysians take life easy and don't really stress about the minor things, it's almost like living in a constant holiday!
What would you recommend as a good local souvenir for visitors to take home from Malaysia?
I think there are so many things you could bring back from Malaysia as a souvenir, among which would be the local Batik, traditional kites (Wau), some pewter goods, songket for the bros and Baju Kebaya for the ladies.
And what did you take back for yourself from Hong Kong?
When I was in Hong Kong, I was so busy having fun discovering the city that I unfortunately didn't have so much time to shop. But I did get a few nice souvenirs such as vintage Bruce Lee Movie posters and those funny Hong Kong street signs.
One local activity visitors should always try out when they visit Malaysia.
There are way too many cool things to do in Malaysia it's hard to pick one above the rest but if I had to choose I would say Jungle Trekking. Malaysia has some of the oldest rainforest ecosystems in the world and it’s truly breath-taking to take a stroll through natural history; plus if you're lucky you'll bump into some really cool animals along the way!
Three local dishes that visitors should try when they visit Malaysia.
Again, there are so many different local delicacies Malaysia has to offer! But I guess I’ll pick one from each of the main cuisines –Nasi Lemak, Penang Char Kuay Teow and Roti Canai.
The Ultimate BROcation premieres December 14, 9PM on KIX HD
