These kitties are taking social media (and the world) by storm
The ancient Egyptians may have worshipped cats as sacred beings, but there’s a whole new way of worshipping these days, and it’s called the Internet. Millions of cat photos and videos are uploaded each day, and the audience – namely, us – can’t seem to get enough.
In conjunction with National Kitten Day on July 10, we look at some of social media’s most popular cats, whose quirky antics and unique looks have earned them the adoration of fans from all around the world.
Nala Cat
Heading to Las Vegas today! See you at @halopets booth tomorrow and Thursday!
A post shared by Nala Cat ™ (@nala_cat) on Jun 26, 2018 at 8:57am PDT
The sight of Nala’s big, blue and exceptionally round eyes is bound to melt hearts. A Siamese and tabby mix, Nala was left at a shelter when she was just a kitten. At five months old, she met her forever human: Varisiri Mathachittipan, who was visiting the shelter with a friend. “Even though I never intended to adopt a kitten that day, when I saw her, I just knew it was meant to be,” said Varisiri.
Now seven, Nala’s posts brighten up the day for her 3.6 million Instagram followers. She shares a home with her family of celebrity siblings: White Coffee, Luna Rose, Stella & Steve, and Spencer.
Venus The Two Faced Cat

When photos of Venus emerged online, many people claimed they were Photoshopped. That’s because Venus, also called the ‘two faced cat’, has a perfect line running down the centre of her face: orange on one side with a blue eye, and black on the other with a green eye. The baffling combination has mystified experts, but her 1.5 million Instagram fans (and over 1.3 million Facebook fans) just can’t get enough of her unique looks.
Lil Bub
A post shared by Lil BUB (@iamlilbub) on Jun 21, 2018 at 1:50pm PDT
Lil Bub is a tough soldier of a kitty who has inspired millions of humans with her strong, indomitable spirit. Born to a feral mother and found in a garage, she had numerous genetic anomalies, including an extreme form of dwarfism that causes her limbs to be very small, making it difficult for her to move around. Her tongue hangs out constantly because of a short lower jaw and toothlessness, and she also suffers from a bone condition called osteopetrosis. Despite the challenges, Bub is a happy-go-lucky cat well-loved by owner Mike Bridavsky who calls her ‘the most amazing cat on the planet’. Her 1.8 million followers sure agree!
Hamilton The Hipster Cat
Too beautiful in SF not to spend #Caturday outside… #mustachecat
A post shared by – Hamilton The Hipster Cat – (@hamilton_the_hipster_cat) on Feb 3, 2018 at 4:24pm PST
You’ll be hard pressed to find a cat more dapper than Hamilton ‘The Hipster Cat’, who apart from sporting a glorious snowy white moustache and majestic whiskers, also has expressive green eyes that stare into your soul. Rescued from a feral colony, ‘Hammy’ had a rough start in life and was initially scared and untrusting of humans and his new environment. When he was finally adopted in 2012, Hammy and his new human had to see a behavioural specialist to get him adjusted. Today, his handsome, good looks have earned him a spot among Instagram-cat royalty, with over 800,000 followers.

Hosico

With his incredibly round face, luxurious golden coat and huge blue-green eyes, Hosico has often been called a real-life Garfield. The rotund Scottish Straight’s journey has been documented on social media since he was a kitten, and he has over 942,000 followers on Instagram, who love watching his every move – whether he’s clambering into boxes, rolling over for a belly rub, batting at his favourite toys or simply doing… nothing. Aptly, his celebrity status is reflected in the name, which loosely translates to ‘Star Child’ in Japanese.
