Celebrity chefs Farah Quinn, Papa Joe, Sherson Lian and Farouk Hussein all set to excite visitors’ taste-buds at LILAC 2015
Laksa lovers, take note! The mythical island of Langkawi in the state of Kedah in northern Malaysia will play host to the fourth annual Langkawi International Laksa Carnival (or LILAC) this 29-31 May 2015, to be held at Laman Padi, in the Pantai Cenang area.
Laksa is a type of rice noodle dish served with spicy gravy available in many varieties according to the different regions a specific recipe for laksa may have originated from. At LILAC 2015, visitors may expect laksa dishes such as the ever-popular assam laksa and curry laksa, and variants including Laksa Johor, Laksa Sarawak, Nyonya Laksa, Laksam and Laksa Ipoh. Also available at the festival will be laksa dishes and other types of rice noodle from around the region including from the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, China and Thailand.
Expected to make their appearances at LILAC 2015 are acclaimed Malaysian chefs Johari Idrus (affectionately known as Papa Joe), Sherson Lian and Farouk Hussein, who was a semi-finalist on TV show MasterChef Selebriti Malaysia Season 1. Popular Indonesian chef Farah Quinn will also be at the event.
The festival will also feature other activities throughout the weekend including laksa-cooking contests and demos, teh tarik performances by the Teh Tarik King of Malaysia (demonstrating creative ways to pour milk tea from one container to another in preparing the frothy Malaysian favourite), activities for the children and on-stage performances, including by popular street musicians Caliph Buskers and mascots of animated show Upin & Ipin.
There will also be prizes up for grabs for visitors with prizes amounting to more than USD14,000 to be won, in contests and lucky draws organised by the various participants at the carnival.
Organised by the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), this year’s event is expected to draw in a crowd of about 30,000 visitors, about 7.0 percent more than last year’s 28,000. Get more information on LILAC 2015 at lada.gov.my.
