A fleeting floral escape by the canal at Wangjing South Station
After the long, cold winter, China’s capital comes alive with colour as cherry, peach and plum trees begin to bloom in spring. Among April’s highlights are the enchanting crab-apple blossoms – symbols of happiness, beauty, marriage and fertility.

Catch these blush-hued flowers as they drift onto the bank of the newly renovated canal by Wangjing South Station, a spot that has quickly become a favourite among Beijingers eager to capture the romantic charm of these spring blossoms. On a sunny, breezy spring day, the effect is particularly magical.
To visit, take Beijing Metro Line 14 to Wangjing South Station and head towards Wangjing’s unmissable cyberpunk panda statue. From there, head down paths beside the canal – all peppered with pink and white flowers – and take pictures from the jetties, designed to recreate the feeling of being on a boat floating gently on the water.
