With lockdowns lifted, domestic travel on the rise and certain countries opening up their borders again, it’s likely that many of us are travelling more that we have in months. While we may be itching to get moving again, the fact that Covid-19 is still very much present in our world can make it hard to travel without constantly worrying about the state of our health.
One thing that can help us travel with peace of mind is taking steps to ensure that our immune systems are in fighting shape as we acclimatise to the new normal. From having to adjust to different time zones and weather changes to dealing with pollution and germs, certain stressful aspects of travelling can weaken our immune systems and make us more susceptible to falling sick.
Here’s our guide to a few easy steps you can take to stay healthy, so that you can enjoy a carefree and stress-free vacation.
Get enough sleep and pace yourself
From lugging around heavy bags to being on the move all day, travelling can be harsh on the body. Hence, it’s important to make sure that you spread out your itinerary so you’re travelling at a comfortable pace and get a sufficient amount of rest. Have to wake up early for a packed day of sightseeing? Try to fit in an afternoon siesta, or opt to turn in early the night before.
Eat healthy and boost your immunity
While one of the perks of travelling is stuffing yourself silly with local food, do keep an eye out for hygiene and cleanliness to prevent yourself from getting a stomach bug. Eat in moderation and focus on getting the proper nutrition. For a morning immunity boost, start each day with a dose of Redoxon Double Action, which contains both Vitamin C and zinc – two essential components to help strengthen your immune system and ensure that it’s in great shape during your travels.

Wear a mask and practice social distancing
As Covid-19 is still a threat, it’s crucial to wear a mask and practice social distancing, especially in crowded public settings. Stay two metres away from other people and ensure that your nose and mouth are always fully covered with a mask. For maximum comfort, choose a mask that’s made of a breathable and functional fabric, and make sure to change it regularly or wash it after each use. Furthermore, protect yourself and other travellers by not leaving the house if you’re unwell.
Wash your hands frequently
Frequent hand-washing has been proven to minimize the spread of Covid-19, so be sure to wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds at a time. If soap and water aren’t available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. It’s especially important to wash your hands after going to the bathroom, before and after a meal, or after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
Hydrate yourself to combat low humidity and hot weather
The low humidity of aircraft cabins and enclosed air-conditioned spaces dries out the mucous membranes of your eyes, nose and mouth, making them less effective at blocking out viruses. When flying, carry a bottle of water with you or ask the cabin crew for some, so that you can drink enough to compensate for the cabin dryness. When out and about, especially in hot weather, be sure to stay hydrated by taking regular sips of water throughout the day.
Clean up to protect yourself
Limit contact with frequently touched surfaces, such as handrails, elevator buttons and kiosks. When flying, bring along some antibacterial wipes to disinfect your seat, armrest, tray table, seat-back pocket, air vent, entertainment touchscreen, headrest and window blind. You can follow the same procedure when it comes to hotel controls, lift buttons, handrails and other high-touch surfaces, or when traveling by bus, train or taxi.
