The Borneo Cultures Museum in Kuching has already earned high praise from visitors for world-class exhibits and beautiful architecture
Set to be another world-class attraction in Malaysia, the Borneo Cultures Museum opened in March 2022 in the heart of Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Designed by renowned Malaysian architect Dato Sri John Lau Kah Sieng, the building’s distinctive exterior features towering golden arches. But for a unique perspective of the museum’s fascinating architecture, don’t miss the view from the fifth level.
Over 1,000 artefacts reflecting the history and culture of the indigenous peoples of Borneo and Sarawak can be found in the five-storey museum, which spans more than 30,000sqm. Start at the Arts and Crafts Gallery on the second floor, where you can learn traditional crafts as well as pick up dance and music skills. Parents will be delighted to find an entire section dedicated to interactive learning, arts and crafts activities for children, also on the same floor.
The other levels are home to the permanent exhibits dedicated to Bornean culture and history. On level three, the “In Harmony with Nature” exhibition delves into the relationship between local communities and the environment, taking visitors on a river journey through different geographical regions. Level four offers a glimpse of Sarawak’s history, going as far back to its prehistoric era and on level five, visitors can admire artistic masterpieces that reflect Sarawak’s skilled craftsmanship. Prepare to spend at least three hours exploring. museum.sarawak.gov.my
