Auto Europe reveals their top picks of adventurous road journeys for 2017
Auto Europe, one of the industry's first global car rental service companies, has revealed its predictions for the top three road trip destinations in Spain for 2017. The predictions made by Auto Europe's seasoned reservations team are based on advanced bookings made for the year in combination with a review of car rental rates in Spain along with global travel data.
“Most travellers are embracing the idea of off-the-beaten path travel and are electing to discover areas farther outside the well-known Spanish destinations such as Madrid and Barcelona,” states Scott Braun, Auto Europe's Chief Marketing Officer. “Each of these cities and their surrounding regions offer unforgettable settings.”
Merida
The capital city and the surrounding region of Extremadura are the perfect destination for history buffs as well as off-the-beaten-path travellers. Extremadura's relative obscurity makes it a perfect destination to immerse oneself in the culture of the area without having to fight crowds. The dramatic landscape of the region translates to an unforgettable European road trip destination.
San Sebastian
The stunning seaside paradise is the hidden gem of Basque Country. Coming off its designation as Europe's Capital of Culture in 2016, the city's popularity among North American travellers is beginning to skyrocket as more and more travellers discover the rich culinary traditions, pristine beaches, and many hiking trails.
Malaga
Travellers to this vibrant city can expect a diverse mix of history, art, nightlife and nature when visiting this Andalusian port city. Malaga's popularity as a car rental pickup destination grew considerably in 2016 among western travellers, a trend that's expected to continue in early 2017.
