Can the virtual classroom provide a fun and engaging learning experience? This Malaysian company believes so
In partnership with JOI®
When Covid-19 hit, schools across the world were forced to close, requiring students and teachers to shift to an online, home-based classroom. Prior to the pandemic, distance learning and e-classrooms were already gaining momentum, although it’s certainly accelerated unprecedentedly by way of lockdowns and temporary school closures. In Malaysia, the Movement Control Order (MCO) mandated schools across the country to temporarily shut, affecting over 6 million students in schools and higher education institutions. Educators and students alike had to quickly adapt to a virtual learning experience and reimagine new ways to learn and engage in a way that’s fun, interactive and effective, despite being remote.
Even as cities and schools reopen, it’s clear that virtual learning technologies will continue to shape the way we view schools of the future. Given today’s generation of tech-savvy students who are accustomed to powerful, moving-screen images, there’s a real opportunity for contemporary learning environments to embrace virtual classroom solutions that allow for interactive, personalised and flexible learning.
Granted, virtual classrooms have their share of shortcomings and challenges. But thankfully, options exist to create and foster a collaborative, interactive and engaging remote learning environment.
In Malaysia, JOI is on a mission to introduce innovative tech products to homes, businesses and now the education space. First launching in Malaysia in 2013 with its Android-based tablets, it’s working on exciting solutions today to revolutionise the modern digital classroom experience. One of its solutions, JOI® Smart Classroom, powered by Intel®, is a complete classroom and whole school management solution developed for both teachers and students. With the use of advanced technologies, this holistic virtual classroom tool facilitates instruction, class participation, assessments alongside useful monitoring and control features.
Besides creating a learning experience that’s fun and engaging, the JOI® Smart Classroom also designed to help students, families and teachers seamlessly transition from a traditional classroom to a remote one anytime and anywhere, should the need arise.
Here are some benefits offered by the JOI® Smart Classroom:
Interactive teaching and learning
Thanks to features like a screen broadcast, student demonstration, remote command, file distribution and collection, JOI’s virtual classroom technologies prove that the e-learning experience can be far from passive. Its tools also help easily facilitate class collaboration; students can actively share and engage in new ideas and participate in class discussions, thanks to the JOI Smartboard, its in-built whiteboard feature.
Effective monitoring and guidance
One of the concerns of the digital classroom is that being remote can make it hard for educators to monitor or assess their students’ work. With JOI® Smart Classroom, teachers can monitor all student’s activities, assess their understanding, control access to web applications and monitor their work on the spot in real-time and offer help seamlessly.
Compatible with various operating systems
Taking the digital classroom online has never been easier. Bearing in mind that not all students have access to a stable Internet connection, JOI® Connect hopes to bridge that gap. This lightweight, portable and mountable WiFi connection allows students to connect to the Internet and access their learning materials and lets teachers easily upload lesson content. It’s also compatible with various operating systems such as Windows, macOS and even iOS.
On-hand remote technician support
Much like an actual classroom, students and teachers can seek technical help from their school’s technicians, if need. All computers and devices used in the JOI® Smart Classroom are managed by an IT technician. They can monitor inventory and provide remote support to students, if needed. Teachers can also request assistance from the technician via the software itself.
